Very well written

This book is a beginning text on how we might better manage conflicts in our daily lives. We all have conflicts in our lives, with spouses, co-workers, friends, family and more. Most of us never think about how we might approach these conflicts. What I especially like about the approach used in this book is the way the authors have come up with dozens of case studies or situations. They are short but to the point. They are used to illustrate the theoretical points that the authors are discussing at the time.

For instance:

A Navy ship sees they are in a collision course with another ship and radio them: Alter your course ten degrees to the north, we are a battleship. The other ship replies: We’re a lighthouse, suggest you alter course.

This is to illustrate that assumptions might be at the base of a conflict and that explaining the true situation might be a much better than fighting. The Navy would not like it if someone ran their battleship into the rocks around the lighthouse. Retaining the thought about the battleship hitting the rocks will help you remember about assumptions.

Naturally I bought this because I had to for a BSU class. Good news- the chapters are small and easily cram-able for quiz. Nothing worse than taking up space just to take up space. Did I get enough words for Amazon review?

Funny Advice for All Artists

We artists are a sensitive bunch. We don't respond well to helpful criticism, beat ourselves over the head when we fail at being original, hit frequent creative blocks, compare ourselves unfavorably with others, and generally have no friggin' idea if what we're doing feels right. Author/collage artist Danielle Krysa understands the ordeal all too well. Together with illustrator Martha Rich, she deals with all that messy painful stuff with cheer and good humor in her book Your Inner Critic Is a Big Jerk.

Although a lot of the advice in this book seems overly familiar and common sensical, it's actually a great comfort to read someone else's hacking out of these issues and offering tangible solutions. The book is organized in ten neat chapters, each one filled with personal anecdotes, testimonials from other artists, and fun, creativity-boosting exercises to break anyone of their creative funk. The workshops and cute illustrations seem geared more heavily toward young female artists still searching for their voice, although even a seasoned professional can glean a lot from Krysa's pragmatic, never-preachy tone. As a man in his '40s still struggling to get a foothold in the commercial illustration world, I could relate emphatically to much of Krysa's woes. The best advice of all? Just do something, anything!

This is not just another inspirational biography but a very clearly written how-to book with step-by-step directions that are very realistic.

During this process, fiat currency has risen to dominance with the culmination of FRN$ as the world’s reserve currency.

Despite President Nixon’s 1971 statement that “we’re all Keynesians now,” several alternative schools of thought exist. Within the Fischer camp is John Exter, who presented a debt deflation argument. Mises laid the foundation for the Austrian School of economics, which involves analyzing human action from the perspective of individual agents.

In summary, this book is an autopsy of the current worldwide monetary and financial system beginning with a brief overview of financial history, the current great deflationary credit contraction, and projecting the future environment. It concludes with suggestions on how to generate and preserve wealth in this challenging time, and the appendix contains a deeper analysis of important topics.
