Expands on general story but not much else

They expanded A LOT on the general canon of the universe (goes into detail how the universe is the way it is in the movie) but it is extremely lacking in expanding on character biographies and pasts. It's also disappointing that this book is so short; for a project that Disney had in development for many years, they could have greatly expanded on this book; I know they have they information!

In closing, If you are a die hard fan of Treasure Planet, this book is a must and is a holy grail in the fandom. The pictures they do have are gorgeous and they do explain Jim's mindset pretty well (but it's not something a die hard fan wouldn't already know) and it's nice to have a piece of Treasure Planet.

If you are a general fan, of animation or Disney then steer clear! Animation fans will find the lack of explanation on the blending of the 2d and 3d mediums disheartening and Disney fans tend to forget this movie exists so I doubt you'll care much for this.

AN UNDERRATED MOVIE, AN UNSUNG CLASSIC

I bought this book because I wanted to see some of the artwork that was part of a movie that my teacher from Art Center worked on. Yes, I must confess, I have never seen the movie, but bought it because I love collecting books on art and animation.

I have to agree with a previous review that pointed out that this book should have come out in hardcover format. It is too bad that Disney ignored it, and cut out on advertising, because the artwork is truly a treat. Nonetheless, I'm glad to include this book in my collection; it's more than worth its retail price!

Nice book, could use more art.

Strange to headline it that way, but even though it's an art book, it's still too brief. If anything, it needs to be a larger format with more of the concept paintings and development of the ship models as well. I do like the movie and wished it had been a bit longer too.

weird but not necessarily good

I can't remember what compelled me to buy this odd little book. Apparently, Marcel Schwob feel in love with a very young prostitute in Paris in the early 1890s and she later died of tuberculosis. Then he wrote this book...The book tells the story of a variety of little girls, most of whom are living on the margins of society in complex and unhappy circumstances. Schwob believed in recycling literary works or narratives and felt that this process was as creative as writing something original. Sound like Borges? If you are interested in obscure french works that have a critical following, then this is for you.

New Translation Available

I have not had the pleasure of reading this, as it has been out of print (as noted above) for some time, but I know of a new translation done by a dear friend who goes by the name Schluter. I believe it is being published by Wakefield Press, and should be available very soon. Do yourself a favor if you are a Schwob fan and get it pre-ordered asap. I think Powell books has it, but Amazon may as well. Enjoy!

A good research tool for the theological student/ pastor.

With good bibliographies for each entry, this book is a gateway to other histories, biographies, and autobiographies on the selected subjects of the book. The author has omitted at least one notable preacher of the twentieth century, Billy Graham, who is mentioned only in passing in articles about other preachers and their ministries. Missing the work of a major evangelist like Graham leaves a hole in the book, but one easily filled by the serious student or pastor. Articles on individuals are kept pertinent and fairly short. The work reads almost devotionally, with some commentary about the nature of the individuals and the impact of their life's work. Not a book for reading from cover-to-cover, but a valuable research tool which points to items usable for further investigation!

The Best Book About Preachers that I've ever read

I think that this a wonderful, engaging book. The author does a great job at drawing the reader into the lives of history's greatest preachers. And although the previous reviewer is right to say that Billy Graham was omitted, it was because the author made the conscious choice to focus only on those ministers who are no longer with us. He made a conscious choice not to evaluate ongoing ministries. This may be a source of frustration for some, but the main idea of the book is to learn from the ministries of the past. I do hope that the book is updated for each generation and that in the future, we will see preachers such as Billy Graham, E.V Hill, the Bishop TD Jakes, Joyce Meyer, and others.
